Video: Puyallup Tribe of Indians chum assessment fishery

Every fall, the Puyallup Tribe of Indians conducts a series of assessment fisheries before opening the commercial chum fishery. Their are two main goals of the assessment fisheries: stock composition and run size.

The tribe holds off opening the chum fishery until the main part of the coho run has migrated through the lower river and, they’ll only open the fishery when there are enough chum returning to propagate the run.
