Here’s a story from the Bellingham Herald on a new book of place names:

A new book coming out from University of British Columbia Press will detail those and more than 160 other place names in the Nooksack language, including their cultural and historic significance.

“These places have value, they have meanings,” said George Adams, head of the native language program for the Nooksack Tribe. “They’re not just utterances.”

Authors of the book are Allan Richardson, a Bellingham anthropologist who recently retired from teaching at Whatcom Community College for 33 years, and Brent Galloway, a professor emeritus at First Nations University of Canada, in Regina, Saskatchewan.
